11/5/10   Neighborhood Watch Update:

  • I received a report of a window being broken on Dolfield Drive by a BB gun. The Chesterfield police examined the damage to the home's kitchen window with the two BB gun holes. He is making an official report about the incident. The policeman commented that firing BB guns within a neighborhood is against Chesterfield County codes. He also stated that direction of the BB gunshots appeared to be from directly behind the house at 2516 Dolfield drive.

  • Cassie McLaren has asked me to pass on the following email regarding the court proceedings for one of the defendants arrested in connection with burglaries in our neighborhood:

Cassie,

Hello. I wish to send out the following information to our Neighborhood Watch group. Can you send this out to the Neighborhood Watch block captains or out to all Woodmont residents? I would also recommend that it goes in the next Woodmont Newsletter.

As a victim of one of the robberies in Woodmont during 2009, I attended the Chesterfield County Circuit Court hearing for the sentencing of Alvin Randolph this past Tuesday, Oct. 19th. I want to share all of this information with our Neighborhood Watch group because although one person was sentenced, you need to be aware that there are three "others out there who were not convicted".

Alvin Randolph was sentenced on four statutory burglary convictions and four grand larceny convictions. (Three were homes in Woodmont and one a home in the Greenfield subdivision). As you probably know, there were more than a dozen robberies last year and Mr. Randolph was charged for the above four. Most of the robberies were in Woodmont. Victims from three out of four of the homes robbed were in court to attend the sentencing and one of the victims spoke on the stand. Mr. Randolph pleaded guilty and apologized to the victims. He admitted to a drug problem and we learned that he had a previous robbery conviction as a juvenile. He testified in court that he was one of four who did the robberies and he did name one of our neighbors on Driftwood Rd. as one of the four. He testified that this man (because he lived in the neighborhood) did the "casing" for the robberies. Mr. Randolph said he did not steal the Walkers

car so that means one of the other three did and have "gotten away" with the crime.
Alvin Randolph was sentenced by the judge to serve a total of seven years with the Department of Corrections. Upon release, he will be under indefinite supervised probation. Alvin Randolph had been residing in the Greenfield subdivision when the robberies were committed. So he is a neighbor who committed crimes in his own community.
Please pass this information on to neighbors on your street and through Neighborhood Watch e-mail

Sincerely,

Suzanne Cousins

2612 Traymore Road

9/17/2010 Another Woodmont Break-in

Hello Neighbors, I've received two e-mails forwarded to me regarding another break-in in our neighborhood. The information I've received is as follows:

Another home was broken into on Shoreham this past Tuesday some time between noon and 4:20 pm. They entered through the back door on their deck. They threw a rock to break the window and then open the door from the inside. The only thing they took was a laptop computer and power
cord that was sitting on the dining room table in view of the door that was broken into. The police were called and a report was taken. The police did not finger print. The neighbor's want everyone to know that this happened so that others can be on the look out for additional activity in the neighborhood as well as if anyone saw anything around that time who can add to the report so this person can be arrested.

If you do receive information regarding criminal activity in our neighborhood, please forward the information to me or to Cassie McLaren, our Neighborhood Watch coordinator at cassmclaren@verizon.net Cassie is in contact with the Chesterfield Neighborhood Watch as well as the Chesterfield Police.

Please note that there are also several vacant properties in our neighborhood. Please keep an eye out for suspicious or unusual activity around these properties. These homes can become a target for vandalism, parties, arson, etc. all of which would be detrimental to our neighborhood as a whole.

7/13/10   ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN and CAR THEFT

Hello Neighbors,
Unfortunately, there is bad news from our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, Cassie McLaren. It seems we have had an attempted break-in in the neighborhood again as well as  THREE thefts from unlocked vehicles.  This is around the same time that we began hearing of break-ins and vandalism last year. Please remain vigilant and lets adopt the New York City attitude of, if you "See Something... Say Something."  Some small detail could prevent an incident. Please also be reminded with the extreme heat we've been experiencing to try to keep a helpful eye out for neighbors, especially seniors,  who may not have air conditioning or need some extra assistance during the summer.   Thank You! --Yvonne          Cassie's Alert follows:

FROM CASSIE McLAREN:

Sadly, after the email I sent out saying everything seemed fine, I just received news on the following - please alert whoever on your list wants to be alerted asap -
There was an attempted break in on Driftwood this weekend (yes, a few doors down from where the juvenile lives who was involved in last years break - ins)

Several things to note:
The residents, and the next door neighbor were both packing up their cars in their driveways around the same time - the belief is the attempted robber saw them doing this; neighbors on both sides were also away the weekend

The resident has a security system that did not go off - so the signs out front did not scare anyone away;

The person(s) was using some type of file at the front door(!) to push through the locks/deadbolts - they did not get in. The resident noticed when they returned that their front door was not closed as tightly as when they left.

A thought from the residents is that they had 3 doors this person could have attempted to open; they worked on the only door where the storm door was not locked.

Also I was told last night that a neighbor who's car was not locked had someone enter it as it was parked in her driveway and take what they could from the interior.

I'm calling Det. Skinner to make sure he is aware of this, that patrols are increased in our neighborhood, and to ask about the criminals who had done last year's burglaries and their status.

I'll give you updates as I hear them.

Thanks, Cassie      ( NOTE:   Since this alert Cassie has been notified of  two additional cars that were entered (They were unlocked) and valuables stolen.)

5/29/10     New larger Neighborhood Watch signs have been installed at 3 Woodmont Entrances.  Two additional Signs are being ordered.  Thank you to Susan Taylor for her handy installation and sprucing up of all of the Woodmont neighborhood signs!

5/13/10   MAILBOX  HIT & RUN:    Between the hours of 2pm and 5pm Wednesday May 12th, a vehicle travelling south on Shoreham Drive struck and drove over the mailbox at 2308 Shoreham Drive. The mailbox was completely demolished as well as a potion of two 1 foot high brick walls that line the driveway. From the looks of the damage, it would appear there would be extensive damage to the front and under body of the vehicle.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact Chesterfield County Police Department on the non-emergency number 804-748-1000 and use case # 201005122013.

Neighborhood Watch Block Captains had their 2nd meeting on January 20, 2010. By this time you have hopefully been contacted by your NW Block Captain to give you an introductory letter and ask for your contact information. Please contact Cassie McLaren if you do not know who your block captain is (339-1990).
The Chesterfield County Police Department have informed us that recent arrests of 2 people have hopefully addressed the burglaries that occurred in our community over the past 9 months. One man is in jail, held pending his court case. The other is released . A website that has information about neighborhood crimes is Virginia Court Cases Information.
An issue that we are reminding people about is that we have a No Solicitation policy in our Woodmont Neighborhood. If someone comes to your door and you answer the door, please feel free to advise them of this policy.
Our WCA Board has approved funding for 3 large Neighborhood Watch Signs for our entrances.

Your Neighborhood Watch Committee is up and running. Our purpose is to work together as a community to keep each other safe and to gather a sense of community within us. Please join us in saying hello to your neighbor. As they say - it takes a Neighborhood! ---Cassie McLaren Neighborhood Watch Coordinator

Thursday, March 18th mail was stolen from an Astoria neighbor's mailbox. In that mail, were 3 checks written out to pay bills. Powhatan Co. police arrested the woman on Friday March 19th. They informed the neighbor that they found 2 of the checks in her car and the other she had used to buy things at a local grocery store. The neighbor has pressed charges with the Chesterfield Co. Police as directed by Powhatan PD. She wanted the WCA and neighborhood watch to let all of our neighbors know to be very careful! This woman has done this multiple times before. In fact, she was in court the day before she stole the mail and the day after, for other violations.
